23: Ashley Tisdale on Faith, Mental Health, and Childhood Fame

This week we are excited to have singer, songwriter, and actress Ashley Tisdale onto the show to learn more about her mental health experiences growing up in the entertainment industry.  We begin with a conversation about faith and religion (3:38), moving us into a conversation about Ashley’s childhood and how she handled the stress of working on TV and movie sets while simultaneously trying to pursue a music career (8:11). She speaks about her experiences with anxiety and depression throughout her young adult life and talks about how she has recently built tools and found ways to support her mental health (22:58).  Ashley talks about how her experiences and reactions to fame after the success of the High School Musical series were different from her peers (29:04) before we discuss the importance of separating work from typical life (31:57).  Peiman asks Ashley about the inspiration behind her blog, Frenshe (35:00), before we finish the episode discussing the importance of practicing self-love (38:20) and fostering spaces and forums to have conversations about mental health (40:57). We’re excited to partner with CashApp on a new initiative to support your mental health. Every week, we’ll be giving out $200 to a handful of listeners with the hope that you can put this money towards something that can better your mental health.
